Small Timothy (Phleum bertolonii), also known as Dwarf Timothy or Lesser Timothy, is a perennial grass closely related to the more commonly known Timothy Grass (Phleum pratense). Smaller in stature, it is valued for its adaptability and resilience. Well-suited to cooler climates and a range of soil types, Small Timothy is often found in natural grasslands and managed pastures across Britain.
Small Timothy is widespread across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, particularly in unimproved grasslands, meadows, and pastures. It is frequently found in light, well-drained soils but can adapt to a range of habitats, including moorlands and upland areas. It is often a component of traditional hay meadows and mixed pastures, contributing to diverse sward composition in both lowland and upland regions.
