Managing lawns has become increasingly challenging due to the evolving environment and climate. To address this, we've conducted thorough screenings of various grass varieties, aiming to identify and select those that demonstrate higher resilience to the specific challenges posed by spring and early summer drought. In addition to drought tolerance, we have also evaluated the grass varieties' capacity to effectively utilize nutrients. Effective nutrient management is crucial for a healthy and vibrant lawn.

The secret is in the roots of the plants. Based on our extensive research/knowledge on root architecture, we offer lawn and grass varieties aimed at mitigating the effects of drought.

Our expertise in root architecture of our grass seed varieties is derived from our extensive R&D network and the exceptional RadiMax root screening facility. Our findings reveal that grass varieties possessing deep-reaching roots and substantial root mass cope better with fluctuating environmental and climatic conditions, such as drought.

Varieties with an extensive root system, provide a robust foundation that leads to a quicker establishment of lush green lawns, enhanced visual appeal, and significant cost savings due to reduced irrigation requirements.

About Radimax

Root architecture is crucial during drought periods, as water is stored in deeper soil layers. Another important factor is rapid root growth, aiding in faster plant establishment.

Partnering with the University of Copenhagen, DLF is pushing the boundaries of root architecture research by utilizing the world’s most advanced root screening facility, Radimax. This state-of-the-art facility provides us with the ability to visualize roots at depths down to 3.0 meters and simulate increasing drought conditions through a controlled soil moisture gradient. By leveraging this cutting-edge technology, we can thoroughly analyze the root structure of our grasses and determine which varieties stay green longer under drought conditions.
